Welcome to the 2014-15 school year.
In 2004 I earned my B.S. degree in Health & Physical Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. In March 2013, I completed my master's degree in Human Services: Health & Wellness from Liberty University. I am a Certified Fitness Trainer through ISSA and an adjunct faculty member for Rappahannock Community College. This year I will be teaching Health and Physical Education for grades 5 and 6.
In Health Education students will acquire understanding of health concepts and skills. Students will learn to apply concepts and skills in making healthy decisions to improve, sustain, and promote personal, family, and community health.
In Physical Education students will acquire the knowledge, processes, and skills needed to engage in meaningful physical activity both in the present and for a lifetime through moderate to vigorous physical activity. Students will learn to enjoy, be challenged, gain satisfaction and work towards a health enhancing level of personal fitness.
Elective classes at EIS meet every other day. Simply said students are in a combination of health and physical education five days every two weeks. Therefore, it is very important that students are present every class period and best effort is given for every task. There are three teachers in the gym and we rotate into health two weeks at a time. Which means we spend more time in physical education than in health. Since dressing out and wearing safe/proper shoes is major part of the overall grade, it is very important that students in grades 6-8 dress out daily and students in grade 5 wear proper shoes and comfortable clothing.
It is a goal of EIS to improve reading and writing skills across the curriculum. Students will be required to write a summary of a health or sports article for me every 4 1/2 weeks. Instructions and due dates will be given in class, and I will post due dates in PowerSchool.
You can access your child's assignments and grades through the Parent Portal of PowerSchool at Essex.k12.va.us. For information about PowerSchool, contact the EIS front office at 443-3040 or Essex County School Board at 443-4366. You may email me at [email protected]
